Jos Residents Remain Indoors After 24 Hour Curfew Imposed
Residents of Jos North and Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State have remained indoor hours after governor Simon Bako Lalong imposed a 24-hour curfew in the said LGAs.
Our correspondent who went round the state capital reports that all business areas were closed down and major roads and streets deserted.
Security personnel were seen going round to ensure compliance with the order.
The imposition of the curfew followed the violence that erupted between pro and anti #SARS protesters.
Three people were on Tuesday confirmed dead by the governor while structures and cars were also destroyed.
The Governor had soon after the break of violence, announced the imposition of the curfew.
He said
“Based on this scenario, I summoned an emergency Security Council Meeting to evaluate the situation and take decisive actions to stop the further escalation. Having received a briefing from security agencies and after a careful assessment of the situation, the Government is left with no choice but to impose a curfew to stop further loss of lives and properties.
“Accordingly, I have directed the imposition of a 24-hour curfew in Jos South and Jos North Local Government Areas with effect from 8:00 pm today Tuesday, October 20, 2020, till further notice. By this directive, all forms of protests are hereby banned in the two Local Governments Areas of Jos North and Jos South, ” he added.
