Is Wizkid Declining? Why Couldn’t He Beat Asake To The Number One Spot?

Wizkid has done a lot in the music industry and will forever be a legend.

But at some point, we have to talk about if he’s still got the pull he had in the Nigerian music industry. Is he still that hitmaker whom no African artist could go head-to-head against?

Of course, we’ll never know for sure until he releases another project. Luckily, he should be releasing another body of work this year, if everything goes well.

The forthcoming project, “More Love, Less Ego” is going to be his fifth album and will feature such artists as Naira Marley and BNXN. Well, of course, no doubt that he’s going to put out one of the best albums of the year.

He’s definitely going to do numbers too. Especially in countries like the US and the UK where Wizkid now has a huge fanbase. But will he also do incredible numbers in Nigeria? That remains to be seen.

“Made in Lagos” did very well on the home front, and although there were a lot of good albums in 2020, it did pretty well. But that was in 2020. This is 2022 and a Wizkid song can’t even top an Asake song on Nigeria’s Apple Music Charts.

What does this mean for Wizkid? What if he comes head to head with artists like Omah Lay, Asake, and Kizz Daniel, during his album release? Does he still have the star power to do better numbers than all of these artists? If it were in the US now, that wouldn’t be a question because Wiz obviously has a better recognition over there.

But it’s been over two weeks now since his “Call Me Every Day” song with Chris Brown has not been able to unseat Asake on the Apple Music Chart. Could this mean maybe Wizkid is losing his star power in Nigeria? Is Starboy undergoing a decline?
