The ‘Charlie Charlie’ challenge, a modern incarnation of a Spanish paper and pencil game, has set the Nigerian Twittersphere agog and gotten users talking.

The game is usually played by teenagers using held or balanced pencils to produce answers to questions they ask.

The challenge involves a person crossing two pencils on a sheet of paper to create a grid with sectors labelled ‘yes’ and ‘no’. The person then calls out ‘Charlie Charlie, are you there?’.

Any movement of the pencil to any direction on the sheet of paper will then suggest the presence of a paranormal entity, ‘Charlie’, which the person could ask further questions to be answered by the movement of the pencil.
